EMERGENCY SERVICES
OUR EMERGENCY EXPERTISE
Nautilus Aviation has a long, proud history of providing helicopter search and rescue, firefighting, and medevac transportation in North Queensland and the Northern Territory.
When our communities need help, we’re ready to answer the call and provide support whether it’s during a cyclone, flood or bushfire. Our fleet is nimble enough to be able to relocate our emergency aircraft between Cairns and Darwin if required.
SEARCH & RESCUE
We are proud to provide disaster relief support to Australian government agencies in the Asia-Pacific region, including existing search and rescue services for the Queensland Police Service, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services.
MEDEVAC TRANSPORT
We maintain a fleet of twin engine aircraft fitted and ready for complex medical cases involving patient transport and retrieval. Our Bell 412EP boasts a wide, spacious, air-conditioned cabin that is easily accessed through two large sliding doors and a dedicated medevac stretcher promising low vibration levels for maximum patient comfort.
FIREFIGHTING CAPABILITY
We maintain both single and twin engine helicopters with the capability to handle all aspects of aerial firefighting. We offer fire ground mapping, surveillance, coordination, air attack platform or direct attack firefighting helicopters equipped with the latest fire-bombing technology including 820L multi-drop Bambi Max and single drop Bambi buckets.
Our Bell 412EP is equipped with a 1000L Isolair belly tank that provides safety and maximum impact on the fire ground.
All firefighting aircraft have emergency radios installed (QFES) as per the NAFC STD -020 for Avionics and Communications.
POLICING & SURVEILLANCE
We maintain a diverse and nimble fleet of aircraft that meet all technical requirements for seamless surveillance or policing operations. Our experienced crew are available to assist with policing specific helicopter requirements from search and rescue to being the eyes in the sky.
EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT OPERATED BY NAUTILUS AVIATION
BAMBI BUCKETS / BELLY TANKS
Utilised for aerial firefighting are 2 x 820 litre multi drop Bambi Max and 1 x single drop Bambi buckets – the latest technology in Fire Bombing equipment. The Bell 412EP is equipped with a 1200Lt Isolair belly tank providing safety and maximum impact on the fire ground.
FLIR
The sensors installed in ‘forward-looking infrared’ cameras (as well as those of other thermal imaging cameras) use detection of infrared radiation, typically emitted from a heat source (thermal radiation), to create a ‘picture’ assembled for video output. FLIR is a great search and rescue tool for locating civilians in dense bushland, water or remote areas. Additionally, FLIR is a great firefighting tool with the ability to pinpoint hot spots after the fire front (not visible to the naked eye) has passed.
FUEL TRAILERS / TRUCKS
Remote fuelling of aircraft make it possible for helicopters to stay on task for longer.
MEDEVAC STRETCHER
Allows for better passenger comfort in the event of a Medevac situation.
SPIDERTRACKS
All Nautilus Aviation helicopters are fitted with real-time “spidertracks” satellite tracking system. The device tracks aircraft location, height and speed every two minutes from departure to landing. Capable of notifying operations on take offs, landing, Cancelling SAR and Extending SAR.
WINCH
In situations where it is impossible to land safely, the Bell 412EP has a fitted winch that makes personnel retrieval and insertion possible. Our company Aircrew Officer (winch operator) and Rescue Crew conduct these operations.
