This flight provides a great snapshot of Darwin’s diverse natural beauty while providing insight into the major events, both past and present, that have shaped it into the laid back, but modern and internationally connected city, that we know today.   

Departing from Darwin (departure point advised on confirmation), highlights include:

• Darwin’s popular Waterfront Precinct including wave park and Darwin Convention Centre 
• Darwin Esplanade and Bicentennial Park
• Cullen Bay Marina
• Mindil Beach – home to the famous Mindil Beach Markets
• East Point Reserve and historical fortifications
• Beautiful coastal vistas along Nightcliff and Casuarina Beach up to Lee Point 
• Flight returns to departure point

At key locations during the flight we cast our minds back to how things would have appeared during the Japanese air raids of February 1942 and the devastating effects of Cyclone Tracy which made landfall in the early hours of Christmas Day 1974. 

Cyclone Tracy took 71 lives, destroyed more than 70 percent of Darwin’s buildings and left more than 50% of the then 48,000 inhabitants homeless.
